I visited Israel last week and I was fortunate to see the beautiful flowers of Hollyhock in the garden of Gethsemane. I was inspired to write a poem.
Did you know that Hollyhock’s seeds can be used to make marshmallows? Yes! Hollyhock is one of the species in the mallow family Malvaceae. It has a slimy mucilage which is a mucous-like substance used in making marshmallows.
If you are interested in making real marshmallows, I suggest you to visit latifasherbs.com , Making Real Marshmallows ( from Hollyhock seeds).
Hollyhock (Alcea rosea) is a herbaceous plant with hairy stalk and blooms with white, yellow, orange, purple, red and pink. Its stalk can reach a height of five feet to nine feet. They are attractive to both insects and birds.
Hollyhock is known to have medicinal purposes. It can be used to help wound healing, stomach ulcers, pain and diabetes. However, please consult your doctor before taking or using any herbs for their medicinal properties because they can interact with your other medications. Keep in mind that the medicinal use of Hollyhock is not scientifically proven.
