Did you know that Bluefin tunas return to the same spawning are yearly? Yes! Although they can span the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans, the Bluefin tunas come back to the same area from May to July in the Mediterranean Sea.
There are international regulations for fishing Bluefin tuna, however, overfishing is one of the major problems for their declining population as well as the warmer ocean water brought about by climate change. Bluefin tuna’s eggs prefer cooler water in order to survive.
Bluefin tunas are apex predators but when it comes to their battle against environmental and economic challenges, they arena the losing end.
Reading the articles about the Bluefin tuna and other endangered species makes me sad because it made me realized how complicated human survival needs are.
The endangered animals need to survive too because they are part of our ecosystem.
May we learn to value what we have, not just the material things but most importantly, the people who loved us and the world we live in.
