Have you seen the flower plant Heather? Heather is a shrub that can be found on many wastelands in Europe.
Did you know that Queen Victoria popularized Heather as a sign of good luck? I have read in FTD.com, the queen did this in honor of the Scottish folklore and traditions.
There is a Scottish legend about Heather. It was told that a lady named Malvina, a daughter of a Celtic bard, was engaged to a warrior named Oscar. Unfortunately, Oscar was killed in the battle. In honor of Oscar’s love for Malvina, the messenger who delivered the sad news to Malvina, brought her a heather. It was believed that the purple heather turned white when Malvina’s tears fell on the flowers. Despite her sadness, the white heather made her wish for happiness in others and desires of good lick for anyone who would find a white heather.
Heather comes in three beautiful shades: white, pink and, purple. White, which symbolizes as good luck, protection and wishes coming true while the purple heather symbolizes admiration, and solitude.
The poem above was inspired by the SCOTTISH LEGEND I mentioned and some poetry prompts by the three accounts that I followed in Instagram.
I hope you enjoyed the poem and learned something more about the Heather flowers.
