EASTER LILY

Did you know that there is an Easter Lily capital of the world? Yes! It is in Smith River, California.

There are five farms in this town that grows around 14 million Easter lilies annually.

This beautiful trumpet-shaped white fragrant flower is native to Ryukyu, Japan and Taiwan. It was during the 1800’s when it reached the US soil.

After the World War II, the supply of Easter lilies from Japan was halted and the bulb prices became very expensive. They even referred to the flower as the “White Gold”. Hence, many farmers between the pacific area of Oregon and California grow Easter lilies, where more than 90% of the worldwide Eater Lilies bulbs come from.

Easter Lilies is a popular flower around Easter because it was believed that these flowers grew in the garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed the night before he was captured to be crucified on the cross.

The flower is a Christian symbol of resurrection.

The lilies were referred to be clothed as more glorious than King Solomon in the Bible.

May we rise to wear purity in this world where the tangibles are perceived to be a symbol of glory and not the virtues that the good souls carry.
