I am currently illustrating my new picture book featuring Gigi and Mona the butterfly.
Gigi is one of the daughters of my friend Myrlande. She is an eight year old girl who loves to listen to my picture book stories. Gigi is shy, but she is vocal about her opinions and she has a heart for illustration. I am lucky to have Myrlande and Gigi as my story critics.
I wrote the story for this picture book a few months ago and I am always fascinated by butterflies. The poet in me finds the butterfly’s metamorphosis fascinating and symbolic.
If you have read some of my posts here or in my poetry page in Instagram, you already know how much I love to read about nature and they serve as the muse for my poetry.
While reading about Monarch butterflies, I came across the fact that there is a rapid decline in their population and according to the North American Butterfly Association (NABA) the commercially-raised butterfly can carry diseases to the native butterfly population and disruption of their migration, as well as untimely death.
In the story of Gigi and Mona, I am hoping to raise awareness of the endangered Monarch Butterfly.
I will keep you all updated to its release date.
Thank you so much for reading.
