It’s Valentine’s Day! My poem is dedicated to the smallest insect in the world, the Fairyflies of Costa Rica called Dicopomorpha exhmepterigys. They are 0.139 to 0.2mm long. They have a microscopic heart which can be found in their backs extending to their heads.
They are considered as parasitoids, which means they feed on their hosts to survive. They complete their metamorphosis inside their hosts. The male fairyflies of the species I described in my poem were blind, wingless, a mouth which is basically a hole, and legs with suction cups for clutching the females for mating.
Fairyflies are very small, but their impact on agricultural production is very important. They are used as pest controls for bigger insects in different countries.
