Did you know that a Green Sea Turtle’s shell is not green? Yes! the shell of the hatchlings are dark brown and gray that turns into olive as they mature and the underside of their carapace has lighter shade.

The name Green Sea Turtle was derived from their green diet. The adult are herbivores while the young ones are omnivores. Seagrasses and algae is the main source of nutrition for the adult while crustaceans, worms and seagrasses for the young ones.

The Green Sea Turtles are endangered species, just like the Hawksbill Sea Turtles.  The decline in their population is caused by several factors which includes; wildlife trafficking for their shells, human consumption of their meat and eggs, loss of habitat, bycatch, vessel strikes and climate change.

How can we help the Sea Turtles?

We can stop patronizing products using their shells, avoid throwing trash in the ocean or using chemicals that can harm them, be mindful of your gas transportation usage, donate to reputable organizations that help endangered species conservation.
