It’s been five days since I lost my cats. They’re not missing in the wild—I had to give them up for adoption, and thankfully, two loving families welcomed them into their homes.
We originally fostered them for three months, but we quickly grew attached and decided to keep them. However, my family and I ultimately chose to give them a chance to live with people who longed for companionship and had a more suitable environment for them.

So why did we give them up?
It breaks my heart to say it, but managing the two of them became too difficult. They were fighting almost every day. When they started clawing or biting, it was hard to separate them in time. I always felt bad—one would end up hurt.
Tula had scars on his neck and face. A small piece of his ear was even bitten off by Kivi.

Individually, they were incredibly sweet, but together they became territorial. They had grown up in the wild, surviving the harsh winters of upstate New York. Because of that, they had strong food insecurities. We had to separate them during meals—Kivi ate twice as fast as Tula and often tried to steal his food.

Still, they had their tender moments. After meals, they’d lick each other’s faces. Sometimes, they played together gently. But when one got attention, the other would get jealous—and that’s when the fights would start again.

These cats had been through so much. Besides their rough start in the wild, they both had tapeworms, Giardia, and eventually had to be neutered. We made sure they were healthy, vaccinated, and ready before they went to their new homes.
I miss Tula’s constant yapping and Kivi playing with my toes. They were our family’s first pets, and they will always hold a special place in my heart.
